DARPA Subterranean (SubT) Challenge
The DARPA Subterranean (SubT) Challenge contributed to revolutionize how underground operations take place. It called for teams to address the mobility, perception, autonomy and networking technologies necessary to explore, map, and search subsurface networks in unpredictable conditions.

The DARPA SubT Challenge includes both a physical Systems competition, as well as a software-only Virtual Competition. It is organized based on four tracks, namely:
- Track A: DARPA-funded teams participating in the Systems Track
- Track B: Self-funded teams participating in the Systems Track
- Track C: DARPA-funded teams participating in the Virtual Track
- Track D: Self-funded teams participating in the Virtual Track
The DARPA SubT Challenge is organized around three Circuit and one Final Event. Approximate Dates are as follows:
- Tunnel Circuit, August 15-22, 2019
- Urban Circuit, February 18-27, 2020
- Cave Circuit, Fall 2020 (systems competition cancelled due to the global coronavirus pandemic)
- Final Event, September 21-24, 2021
